Andy Ridout, Group Managing Director of Advance-TRS completed his third Ironman for children’s charity, Railway Children this past weekend Sunday.
Certainly an event not for the faint-hearted, an Ironman triathlon is comprised of a chilling 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 112-mile bicycle ride, finished off by a marathon (26.2-mile run), all of which must be completed within 17 hours. Ridout completed the monumental challenge in an incredible 11 hours 46 minutes.
Since establishing in 2011, giving back to those less fortunate and advancing others has been a central motivator for founder Andy Ridout and the growing Advance-TRS team. This is Ridout’s latest, in a string of extreme challenges he has taken on, to raise money and awareness for the children’s charity.
Railway Children is an international charity that helps at-risk children on the streets of the UK, India and East Africa. The charity funds rescue workers and street teams that seek out vulnerable children living on the streets before potential abusers get to them first. In the last 20 years, the charity has helped to change the lives of more than 270,000 children across the world.
The £100 Give
Having already raised over £30,000 for Railway Children, Andy has set his sights higher, striving to raise a total of £100,000 for Railway Children by convincing 1,000 people to donate £100 to this fantastic charity. For some people, losing £100 would be an inconvenience. For these children, it could be life-changing.
Andy’s fundraising has already got off to a solid start, having raised over £3,500 towards this goal.
“This challenge will be made a whole lot easier with your generous donations, and I can’t do this without your help. Any amount that you can donate will be warmly received and goes directly towards helping the world’s most vulnerable children,” says Ridout.
Mount Kilimanjaro
Next month Andy will take on his next challenge, climbing the world’s highest freestanding mountain to a height of 5,895m / 19,341f, Mount Kilimanjaro. It will also see him face one of his toughest trekking challenges with the final day involving 1,195m of ascent and 2,195m of descent.
